The Haleiwa T-Shirt is Sunray Sportswear’s core essential and widely regarded as the brand’s signature piece.
Made in Japan on rare antique loopwheel knitting machines, each garment is produced in a small, family-run factory with over a century of expertise. This slow production method— taking more than an hour per T-shirt — ensures the fabric is knitted without tension, resulting in a naturally stable structure that will not twist or lose its shape over time.
The fabric is a heavyweight 260GSM jersey made from 100% recycled “Ochiwata” cotton. This reclaimed cotton consists of short fibers recovered during the spinning process, which are re-spun into a uniquely textured yarn. The result is a slightly slubby, vintage-inspired surface with a soft, almost downy hand feel that continues to improve with wear.
Each T-shirt is also pre-washed and steamed during production, ensuring a pre-stabilized fabric with a consistent fit and minimal to no shrinkage over time.
The Haleiwa features a classic, well-balanced fit—neither too slim nor too boxy—designed to sit naturally on the body. A reinforced “Strong Neck” double rib collar ensures long-term durability and shape retention, while the tubular knit construction eliminates side seams for maximum comfort.
