TELA GENOVA X KUROKI - ROUND TWO.

TELA GENOVA X KUROKI - ROUND TWO.

Posted by lukas hoeller on

A special project by Tela Genova, originally made to celebrate the brand’s 10th anniversary, is back. Due to the great response to the original release, Tela Genova has decided to bring back exactly the same edition, featuring the special deep blue denim woven by Kuroki in Japan.

This time, both models, ROMOLO and DAVIDE, are available again in a limited run of just 200 individually numbered pieces per model.

Two models, each with its own character.

The ROMOLO takes inspiration from 1930s workwear. It features a higher waistband at the back, making it suitable for wearing with suspenders. The DAVIDE is a classic five-pocket model with plenty of details taken from traditional denim construction, including narrow selvedge, rivets on the back pockets, a four-button fly and natural cotton pocket lining.

Made one by one in Italy.

Both models are made individually in Tela Genova’s own workshop. This is not standard mass production. Every pair is cut and sewn individually, allowing Tela Genova to pay attention to details that are often lost in modern denim production.

One of these details is the chainstitch hem. Tela Genova has brought an original Union Special machine from 1938 back into operation to create the characteristic chainstitch, with a narrow 7–8 mm finish.

The Kuroki denim.

The fabric was developed by Kuroki in Japan, based on the original denim used for the anniversary edition ten years ago. It is a very dense, deep blue 100% organic cotton denim, woven on shuttle looms.

One interesting characteristic of this fabric is its extremely low shrinkage, both in length and width. It is also very densely woven, making it less permeable to odours than conventional denim.

Tela Genova recommends avoiding washing the jeans whenever possible, allowing the denim to develop its own character and age naturally with the person wearing it. But should you decide to wash them, shrinkage is practically negligible.

Only 200 pieces per model.

Both TELA GENOVA ROMOLO and TELA GENOVA DAVIDE are individually numbered, making each pair part of this small production run.

Good denim, traditional construction and a lot of attention to detail. Nice to see this special Tela Genova × Kuroki project back again.
